Channa Masala gravy/curry

This dish is also from my mom's kitchen. It's really very easy and a simple dish to make. My bro loves this gravy like anything. My mom esp makes this curry when she makes chappathi ,ther's always something special with moms as i would eat her chappathis ( would be so soft and moreover would be perfect. .: )  ) without any side dish. To be noted i would grab extra more rotis to have with this delicious gravy. A real treat to have it with roti's..

Ingredients :

Channa /Kondakadalai -- 1 1/2 cups
Potato -- 3 nos.
Onions -- slivered -- 1/2
Tomatoes -- 1 nos.
Green chilly -- 2 nos.
Saunf -- 1/4 tsp
Cinnamon -- 1 inch piece
Cardamom -- 2 nos.
Cloves -- 2 nos.
GG paste -- 1 1/2 tsp
Chicken masala powder -- 1 tsp (optional)
Red chilli powder -- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder -- 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder -- a pinch
Salt -- to taste
Curry leaves -- 1 sprig
Oil -- 2 tbsp

For grinding:

Shredded coconut -- 1/2 cup
Saunf /sombu /Fennel seeds -- a little above 1/4 tsp
Cashews -- 4 nos.
  or
Khas khas (kasa kasa ) -- 1 tsp

Method :

Saok the channa overnite and pressure cook until it's tender. Normally it takes 3 whistles. Boil the potaotes until tender ,peel the skin and cut them into cubes. Grind the coconut, fennel seeds and the cashews to a fine paste and keep it ready. Take a kadai and pour the oil mentioned. Fry the cinnamon, cloves and cardamom until u can feel the aroma . Add the onions and fry them as well for a minute in a medium flame. Dump in the ginger garlic paste and fry them till u get of the raw smell. Add the chopped tomatoes ,salt and mix well.Adding the salt along with the tomatoes makes them cook fast. or else u  may add the salt after adding onions.. Keep the pan covered and cook the tomatoes until totally disintegrated. Now add the turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and the chicken masala powder (optional) and mix well. Fry this in the medium low flame for a minute. Now dump in the cubed potatoes and scald well with the masalas. Add the boiled channa /Konda kadalai as well. U may add the water /reserved ( i.e . water used to cook konda kadai) water to this masala and let them boil for 5 minutes. Finally add the ground paste . Combine well. Cook this mixture until u get a nice boil, may be 2 minutes and switch off. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti's..

Happy eating guys !!!
