Zucchini Chayote dhal

This veggie was sitting in the refrigerator for a week and i din't wanna make any curry this time. Instead i tried adding this veggie along with chow chow /Chayote to make a simple but slight diff version of dhal. It came out so good. U may try this recipe using any other vegetable available in ur home..


Ingredients :

Zucchini --- 2 no.
Chayote /chow chow -- half
Toor dal -- 1/3 cup
garlic -- 4 cloves
tomatoes -- 1 no.
Salt -- to taste
Tamarind paste -- 2 tsp
Green chilly -- 1 no.
Red chilli powder -- 1 /2 tsp
Turmeric powder -- 1/4 tsp
Hing -- 1/4 tsp

For tempering :
Oil -- 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds -- 1 tsp
dry red chilly -- 1 no.
Curry leaves -- 1 sprig
Shallots -- chopped -- 2 no.

Method :

Chop the zucchini and chayote into cubes. Pressure cook the dhal along with garlic, tomatoes,hing and chayote /chow chow for 3 whistles. Slit the green chilly. Add the tamarind paste to the dhal mixture once it's cooked. Give it a boil. Now add the zucchini ,turmeric powder,red chilli powder and cook for 5 more minutes. At the same time, heat the tadka pan and add the oil. Add the mustard seeds and it will sizzle if the oil is hot. Divide the red chilly into pieces. Add this after u've added the mustard seeds. Followed by Curry leaves. Pour this mixture into the boiling dhal and combine well. Switch off. Garnish with corainder leaves and serve..
