Methi leaves kulambu /Methi leaves Sambar

I wouldn't say i discovered or invented this dish. I just followed the recipe of  drumstick leaves smabar since i had plenty of methi leaves sitting in my fridge doing nothing. When i tried to make this ,my H warned me that it might be bitter but the kulambu came out awesome and we all liked it. It was like any other keerai /spinach kulambu . Try this once and njoy the kuzhambu the way we did .. Trust me it's so gooooood..

Ingredients :

Methi leaves -- about a cup (Cleaned, rinsed and plucked)
Tamarind -- marble sized
Thuvar /Toor dal -- 1/3 cup
Tomato -- cubed -- 1
Onion --chopped -- 1/2
Red chilli powder -- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder -- 2 tsp
Turmeric powder -- 1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves -- a sprig
Garlic cloves -- 2 nos.
Green chillies -- Slit open -- 2 nos.

For tempering :

Curry leaves -- 1 sprig
Mustard seeds -- 1 tsp
Cumin seeds -- 1/2 tsp
Hing -- less than 1/4 tsp
Salt -- to taste
Oil -- as reqd

Method :
Heat a sambar pan and do the seasoning. Add the oil and heat it. Drop in the mustard seeds once the oil is hot and let it splutter. U may add the curry leaves and cumin seeds. keep the flame in medium low. Now add the methi leaves and combine well.  DO NOT SAUTE . Now add a cup of water to the methi leaves and add red chilli ,coriander powder.Mix well and let cook till it's halfway done. At the same time pressure cook the dhal with turmeric powder, hing and garlic cloves, green chillies. Pressure cook the dhal until it's totally mashed. This might take 3 to 4 whistles depending upon the quaility of dhal. Soak the tamarind for few minutes and take out the pulp. Add this pulp to the boiling sambar mixture once it's half cooked and combine well. Cook this mixture for 2 more minutes to get rid of the raw tamarind smell. Finally add the Thuvar dhal mixture and combine well. Cook the kulambu for 2 more minutes and switch off.

Sorry for the photos, will update a better one  the next time i make it..
